Flame Gard Type III Hood Filter

The performance of any commercial kitchen ventilation system relies heavily on the type of hood filters you use. If you want to maximize your filter’s available capture area and increase the free area of your hood filter, there’s nothing better than Flame Gard Type III frameless hood filters.

Flame Gard frameless filters are designed to get grease out of your ventilation system before it has a chance to enter the ductwork. As with most grease hood filters, the Flame Gard frameless filter uses baffles to divert and collect fats, oils and grease effluent from a variety of cooking applications from griddles to grills and woks to fryers. Once the grease is collected, it can be easily removed.

Having the proper hood filter installed plays an important role in the effectiveness, efficiency, and the safety of your commercial kitchen. Commercial Kitchen Ventilation Systems

Most of the tasks in commercial kitchens are accomplished with relatively simple tools: stoves provide a flame for cooking, refrigerators keep food cold, and knives chop. But one of the key exceptions to this principle is with a commercial kitchen ventilation system. What looks to be a simple box that allows air to escape is, in fact, a complex system of interconnected parts that must operate together for efficient ventilation.

In the harsh environment of a commercial kitchen, it’s critical to rely on an effective hood system to keep the work environment safe and clean, as well as to protect expensive equipment from damaging grease build-up. Thankfully manufacturers now produce ventilation systems that are lighter, more durable, and more able to handle the rigorous demands placed upon them. Continue reading

Baffle Filters

With so many different types and styles of baffle filters to choose from, one of the most common questions we get at HoodFilters.com is “which filter is right for me”.

The answer to that question depends on the cooking environment and how much you want to spend to ensure durability and corrosion resistance. When it comes to durability, the main factor to consider is how the filter is constructed.

There are two primary construction options: welded and riveted.

Both hood filter types do an effective job of collecting grease, however, each type offers unique attributes that may be better suited for one commercial kitchen than the other. Continue reading

Trine Baffle Filter
When it comes to choosing the right baffle filter for your restaurant or commercial kitchen, there are three features to compare: material, design and construction.

Baffle filter material is usually the most important feature to consider and the right material depends on a few things. Are you looking for value over longevity? Is appearance important? Are you cooking in a high volume kitchen?
The good news is, there are only three material types to choose from: stainless steel, galvanized steel or aluminum.

Stainless steel is by far the most popular material used for baffle hood filters. It’s everything you want in a baffle filter – long lasting, durable, corrosion resistant and visually attractive with it’s bright shiny finish.

When choosing a stainless steel baffle filter, keep in mind that all stainless steel is not created equal. There are varying grades of metal used that impact corrosion resistance – which is one of the most important features of any hood filter.

While different grades of stainless steel do have some visual distinctions, the simplest way to determine stainless steel quality, is by performing a magnet test. Continue reading

Commercial Kitchen Ventilation

A kitchen ventilation system is as important to the safety and functioning of a commercial kitchen as the cooking appliances. The ventilation system maintains a balance between air that’s removed and fresh air that’s returned to the kitchen. It also offers built-in fire suppression features, ensuring the safety of everyone and everything in the workspace.

The process of ventilating a commercial kitchen is tricky. Air has to move through ductwork swiftly and efficiently. The placement of venting equipment requires thoughtful consideration because most industrial kitchens don’t have unused space.

The purpose of any kitchen ventilation system is to remove contaminates in the air by drawing them out through an exhaust fan. After contaminates are removed from the kitchen, fresh air from outside re-circulates back inside.

Since the upblast exhaust fan draws out contaminants, another system must bring fresh air back inside. The system that replaces extracted air is called a make-up air supply unit. It sucks up fresh air from outside and brings clean air inside. These two components are the most essential parts of a commercial kitchen ventilation system.
